
Kalian School Fest- A blend of kalaatmac saanj...
The most happening cultural spot on the wintry night of Jan 9th - was the Kalian grounds, where the face of India was being showcased to the high and mighty denizens of Coorg.
The cultural fest sprang up into a riots of colourful hub with an invocation by the elegant crew of Kalian facilitators.
A leader who played a vital role in the political and social up front of our state- Mr.M.C Nanaiah -MLC and former minister of Karnataka,adorned the mantel along with the eminities - Founder Trustee & Chairman- Mr Datha Karumbaiah, Managing Trustee Mrs. Ashwini Nachappa and the premiere over seer of the institution - the Principal - Mrs. Gowramma Nanjappa.
Kalian bundles of joy knocked the stage with an extravagant cultural bonanza-enlivening to the tunes of soiree. They took the audience into the mood of ascetic, with a divine melody of aalap and taal-performing an immaculate dance feat-Kathak, they revisited the life in and around the land of Karnataka through seven forms of folk dance- Kolaata, suggi kunitha, khamsale,harvest dance, Nandi dhwaja and Dhwaja kunitha followed by contemporary dance , which tapped the reality of melting glaciers, billowing smoke, and extinction of species.
The renowned dancing exponent Mrs .Madhu Nataraj and her troupe were the brain behind chiseling the innate dancing talents of our kitoons.
The Natya Stem troupe presented a scintillating dance performance depicting various dance modes reitering that life is a succession of dancing moments.
A clan of successful Kalians who outsmarted their peers in academics, sports and co-curricular arenas were honoured at gala award ceremony.
This ostentatious fest wafted a fresh breeze of life and energy leaving the audience craving for more welcoming the season of love, sunshine and happiness.
Kalians on top of the world: A getaway from the humdrum of life with a mission to the abode of nature was the trek which our Kalians scaled to the mystical Narimalai peak of Brahmagiri hills at the foot of gurgling Lakshman Theerta river. The terrific adventurous band of IAYP ians comprising of Gr.X and Gr. IX students planned every hour and meticulously researched the trek of twenty two kms and camped the night amidst the babbling river and cooing of birds.
The two day trek helped the Kalians gaze into the bounteous nature, thus preparing them to face the challenges of life. Some moved in groups and others explored in pairs but the most exciting were those who chose to travel alone on a mission to unshackle the monotony of life.
Flipping through the IAYP Camp: Nov Ist-2009 marked a red letter day in the chronicles of KALS , as we hosted the much awaited three day south zone IAYP camp . A throng of 45 IAYP award leaders from all over the South foraged the campus and fled on an expedition to the serene crest of Coorg Talakaaveri. As day two dawned, the venturesome team set their foot on the hill ranges of Western Ghat wherein is nestled the Brahamagiri Hills after which they journeyed towards the Nagarhole forest , to catch a glimpse of the flora and fauna.
The three day camp culminated with camp fire . As the sanguine flame of fire spread its wings, it hauled a touch of bonhomie. South zone IAYP chairperson Mr. Srikanth, award leaders Neena Nath and Klaian IAYP forefornters- Greshma Ganapathy and Suma Kuttappa catapulted this camp from an an unknown entity to an expanded empire. The participants were awarded bronze , silver and gold medals.
Truly an experience where pupils learnt life skills and learnt to overcome the hurdles . The camp taught the young minds that " all they need is a stable mind to achieve what they want in life"
Eco savvy Kalians going ga ga over management of waste:
" The activist is not the man who says the river is dirty.
The activist is the man who cleans up the river"
Bio tech not only provides scope in the syllabi to learn about the mutation of genes or cloning but has spread its tentacles in treating sewage water. Our activists of the eco club dug their claws laying their hands on a plant that is used to treat sewage water thus enlivening the green environs of Kalian ambience and churning worth out of waste.
Cricket fervor in Kals or Fostering bonhomie via cricket camp Spring and summer, are the propitious phase of the year, when the cricket fervor catches up in the air with all its nuances and hues. Kals was not an exception to this reigning decree of the joie-de-vivre game.
A month long cricket camp was convened by Karaumbiah's Academy of Learning and Sports in association with Karnataka State Cricket Association., amidst its serene premises of in Gonikoppal, Coorg, in the month of April 2007.
Cricket buffs from in and around the district thronged the campus in abundance, to hone their cricketing skills. The hubba hubba of the game created a hustle and bustle in the campus. The camp was steered in by the cricketing doyens- Mr. Dodda Ganesh [former Indian test cricketer and Goa state coach] and Mr. Mukesh Gandhi (senior coach, KSCA) eminent cricketing stalwarts like Mr. Venkatesh Prasad, current Indian bowling coach, prominent former Indian test cricketer Vijay Bharadwaj [current Karnataka coach], sensational Ranji cricket players like Mr. Bharath Chiplee, Mr N. C. Aiyappa, Mr C. Raghu and Mr. Shyam Aiyappa sizzled the camp by bestowing the novice cricketers with their expertise. They chiselled the finest steels with the hardest blows... Lady luck smiled on the crème-de-la players, who were inducted into renowned cricketing teams of the State.
The camp was indeed a novel way in fostering bonhomie and team spirit. This promising cricket camp, a boon to novice players, will be conducted at the Kalian ground as an eternal session in years to come.
